Edible Christmas Gifts
Nov 4th 2011, 10:34

Each year it's a big deal trying to decide what to give my daughter's teachers as Christmas or end-of-year gifts. So far the biggest response we got the year we gave brownies. Teachers would come up to me in the hallways for months telling me how much they really loved the brownies.

Here's a list of delicious baked goods to give you a few options for your Christmas holiday gift-giving.

1. Homemade Candy Like Chocolate-Peanut Clusters

My daughter's teachers just go "nuts" over these candies. To make it even better, for us anyway, is that they're very easy to make. These Chocolate-Peanut Clusters are made using the crockpot.

My sister-in-law delivers tins and tins of Peanut Brittle to her friends and neighbors each Christmas season. She typically makes hers with dry roasted peanuts. The last time I made it with cashews. That was a nice change. I think salted almonds would work too.

I can't say enough how much I love these Ultimate Brownies. They're a cross between a cakey-brownie and a fudgy-brownie. These are the brownies that the school coaches went nuts over.

If you've got some wannabe bakers on your gift list, then cookie ingredients in a jar is the perfect gift for them. Neatly layer the dry ingredients in a pretty jar, add the recipe and all they need to provide is the wet ingredients. Besides being tasty, these gifts can be decorative too.

4. Cookies

You just can't go wrong with giving cookies at this time of year. Either purchase one of those cute holiday-themed tins or a wicker basket lined with a Christmas napkin to hold the cookies. Some of the cookies I like to give (and get!) are: Butter Spritz Cookies (pictured),Thumbprints, Snickerdoodles (love all of that cinnamon), Macaroons and Neapolitans (using red and green food coloring.)

For me, Sweet and Salty Fudge is always a winner as a Christmas gift. I used to give this fudge to my landlord may years ago.

This may be what we're giving this year. I'm sure I'll make these Sugared Nuts with either pecans or walnuts. It all depends on which ones look the best.
