Christmas Cookies Dec 5th 2011, 11:13 'Tis the season to start baking some of those favorite Christmas Cookies. Here are a few of mine. 2009 Sugar Cookies Photo by Carroll Pellegrinelli, licensed to About.com. Baking sugar cookies is the perfect family activity. The older kids (5th grade and up) can make the dough. Younger kids (2nd to 4th grade) can roll-out the dough and cut it with cookie cutters. Even preschool, kindergarten kids can sprinkle sugars and frost cookies once they're baked. The most distinguishable part about these cookies is the hole in the top of the cookie. These cookies are typically made with a Linzer Cookie Cutter with specially-shaped inserts like the one I have with the Christmas symbols. Neapolitan Cookies are made with 3 different flavored and colored cookie doughs. The doughs are put together, sliced and then baked. I had these cookies every Christmas. Into the "thumbprints" jellies and jams are spooned-in after baking. Frosting may also be used.
