Candied Apples are a fun treat you can also find at your local fairs and carnivals.
Put nuts in shallow dish. Line baking sheet with parchment or wax paper. In heavy saucepan, combine syrup, sugar and red hots. Bring to boil over medium high heat, stirring constantly. Cover and cook for 3 minutes to allow steam to melt sugar. Uncover and cook without stirring until
soft-crack stage (270 to 290 degrees F. on candy thermometer). Cool 2 mintues then dip apples into mixture to coat. Roll in nuts. Place on prepared baking sheet to harden.
